Wine lovers rejoice! The trend of wine bottle Christmas trees is here to stay since they first emerged a few years ago. They’ve become a stylish staple of department stores and cafes that have plenty of spare bottles to use – and the finished effect can be quite stunning! They look fabulous both in retail stores and in your own home, with the option to customise to suit your tastes. The basic structure is much the same: you need a pyramid shaped stand and glass wine or beer bottles. However, the final look of your wine bottle Christmas tree is up to you!
- Fill each jar with different coloured fairy lights;
- Fill the bottles with festive messages for customer/friends/family to find;
- Drape with tinsel;
- Add a Santa hat topper!
How To Make A Wine Bottle Christmas Tree
There are a couple of different ways that you can make your own wine bottle Christmas tree; depending on what tools you have available.
If you have a set of tiered shelves that ascend upwards like a pyramid (like a cake stand), then use them as a stand for your tree. This is the easiest way to make a wine bottle Christmas tree, as the bottles can be placed upright going upwards until you form a pyramid. It creates a sleek, modern look that is perfect for sophisticated, high-end shops, bars and restaurants. However, it doesn’t have the splayed, branch-like appearance that the second method can achieve.
Alternatively, you can use a large bottle drying rack to build your tree on, like this one that we've found on Amazon . Simply hang the wine bottles upside down by the bottlenecks to create a branch-like effect that splays outwardly to create the illusion of a plump fir tree. The bigger and wider that your drying rack is, the bigger and shapelier your tree will be. For the best effect, find circular drying racks of varying sizes that you can stack up on top of one another to form a pyramid, like the trees shown above have done.
Here at The Bottle People, we have plenty of glass wine and beer bottles that are perfect for creating wine bottle Christmas trees with, if you don’t have enough to spare! Make sure to use coloured glass bottles, such as our green and amber bottles seen below, as they will make your ‘tree’ look thicker and bushier!
